The recent announcement of Skills for All, an initiative by the South Australian government, has received a positive reception from those both in the industry and general public. The program, which aims to fill critical skills shortages by offering subsidised and free courses, is set to change the way vocational education and training is funded, based on a government investment of $194 million.
Training places for 100,000 residents have been pledged in order to build a stronger local economy, increase productivity and stimulate the state economy.
The initiative comes on the back of the realisation by The South Australian government that the state has an older population in comparison to the national average, and therefore, an ageing work force. This program gives workers the opportunity to gain career-boosting, vocational qualifications with many courses available at a low or no cost.
Education and training is thought to be a key factor in the future growth of the state’s existing and emerging industries. The initiative is also a bid to keep local residents from moving to other areas of Australia for work.
