The use of natural remedies in health care stems back thousands of years and has been a large fixture of scientific research. Trained Naturopaths can clinically assess, diagnose and treat patients through the use of herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutritional and lifestyle advice.

  • Course Description

    The Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) packages a comprehensive training and education in Naturopathy, its history, the science between natures healing properties and how to administer and monitor natural remedies. Students will also complete industry experience through two work placement components, Clinical Studies and Clinical Practicum. 

    The units cover such knowledge and training as: Biological and social sciences, naturopathic and clinical studies, western herbal medicine, iridology, flower essences and homeopathy.

    Course Delivery

    This course is delivered over a duration of 3-6 years. You can choose from full-time or part-time delivery modes, putting you in total control of your completion date. This course is delivered at both the Brisbane and Sydney ACNT campus. For online study, each subject runs for 10 weeks and your study time commitment is approx. 10hrs (per subject) per week. Some subjects are offered online, while others must be taken on-campus, in a specialist facility. 

    Industry Placement

    The course work includes both clinical work and fieldwork placement, ensuring that you graduate with valuable experience and industry contacts. Students undertake up to 100 hours of practical work placement over the course of their degree, which means you graduate with not only a qualification but also invaluable professional experience - equipping you to be work ready. 

    Prerequisites

    Applicants should have completed Senior High School Certificate (Year 12) or equivalent or Mature age entry with relevant work experience with an ATAR 60 or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to undertake study at this level:

    • work experience, and/or other formal, informal or non-formal study attempted and/or completed

    Additional course entry requirements:

    • First Aid Certificate, Working with Children and Police Check before commencing clinical subjects
    • Pass in a science subject at senior secondary level recommended
    • Pass in standard English Band 4 or above

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    RPL is available for each unit of competency based on relevant workplace experience, formal training, or other expertise. To apply for RPL, please submit documentation for evaluation by assessors. More information can be found here for course credit and here for RPL.

    The Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) graduates are well placed to pursue a career as a Naturopath. 

    The natural medicine industry has rapidly grown of recent, mainly due to public demand.  There is a growing need for highly trained professionals able to work in a variety of settings such as medical clinics, health food stores, complementary clinics, health retreats and self-employment. In addition, many students go on to set up their own clinics, undertake postgraduate study, work overseas, publish journals and also work voluntarily to give something back to the community. This degree meets industry association requirements so you can become a member of the related professional association.
