Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements* is a new government wage subsidy to encourage employers of any size or industry, Australia-wide to take on apprentices and trainees.

Training your staff through apprenticeships or traineeships are a great way for businesses to attract new employees or upskill existing team members. Training your staff whilst they work is a smart move for any employer while also earning a nationally recognised qualification, and businesses have highly skilled employees who are trained, challenged and feel happy at work.

This wage subsidy is in addition to the existing $2.8 billion Supporting Apprentices and Trainees wage subsidy.

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements measure aims to support employers and Group Training Organisations to take on new apprentices and trainees to build a pipeline of skilled workers to support sustained economic recovery.  Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements is in addition to other payments available to employers under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program.

  • The subsidy is available to employers of any size, industry or geographic location.
  • This will apply for all NEW EMPLOYEES and Existing workers who commence a traineeship on or after 5/10/2020.
  • The wage subsidy is available for a maximum of $7,000 per quarter per eligible Australian Apprentice.
  • The subsidy is available for wages paid from 5 October 2020 to 30 September 2021.
