Each VET qualification is made up of a series of Units of Competency. These allow learners to demonstrate their ability to complete a range of workplace tasks. Competency Based Training is an excellent lead into employment because at the end of each learning unit, you’ll either be considered ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’ to complete that specific task.

How this works in assessment marking

In order to gain your full qualification, you’ll need to be competent in all units. There are no grades in VET qualifications, just the types of guaranteed competency that employers are looking for. This creates a more practical, hands-on approach to assessing your skillset for a particular role.
