Course Overview

Give your whole team a shared, accurate understanding of what AI can and cannot do, and how it is actually built on Microsoft Azure. AI-901T00 is a one day instructor led course that mixes AI concepts with the technical skills that underpin a career implementing AI solutions.

Delivered as dedicated group training for your organisation, the course covers the concepts first, generative AI and agents, natural language processing, speech, computer vision, information extraction and retrieval augmented generation, then puts them into practice in Microsoft Foundry. It is the fastest way to get an entire team speaking the same language about AI, and it prepares participants for the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification.

AI-901 replaced AI-900. Microsoft retired Exam AI-900 on 30 June 2026, and AI-901 is now the exam that earns the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals credential. If your team was previously scheduled for AI-900 training, this is the course that replaces it.

Why should you do this course?

  • Get everyone from developers to project managers working from the same understanding of AI, in a single day out of the office.
  • Replace AI hype with a clear picture of which Azure services solve which problems, before your organisation commits budget to a build.
  • Prepare your people for the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification, with the exam voucher included.
  • Build the shared foundation that makes the deeper AI-103 and AI-300 courses land properly later.
  • Cover responsible AI considerations early, so the conversation about risk happens before the first pilot, not after it.

What will you learn?

  • Describe core AI concepts, terminology and the considerations that apply to AI workloads.
  • Explain how generative AI and agents work, and where each is the right tool for the job.
  • Recognise natural language processing, speech and computer vision workloads and the Azure services behind them.
  • Understand information extraction and retrieval augmented generation, and why grounding matters.
  • Get hands on with Microsoft Foundry to build and test AI capability in Azure.
  • Work with Microsoft Foundry IQ and see how AI solutions connect to your organisation's own knowledge.

Who is this course for?

  • Technology professionals at the start of a career in AI solution development.
  • Developers who need to understand the Azure AI service landscape before choosing an approach.
  • Business analysts, product owners and project managers scoping AI work with technical teams.
  • Whole teams that need one shared foundation before moving on to AI-103T00 or AI-300T00.
  • Anyone in your organisation preparing to sit the AI-901 exam.

What you need to know

This is a beginner level course, but it is a technical one. Some knowledge of Python syntax and programming techniques is useful, and familiarity with core cloud concepts such as cloud storage, cloud compute and cloud based authentication will help participants get more from the hands on portions. It is not a data science course and it does not require any machine learning background. One day is enough to cover the ground because the course is deliberately focused on concepts plus practical orientation, rather than deep implementation.

What's Next?

On completing the course your team will be prepared to sit Exam AI-901, which earns the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification. The exam is proctored, and the passing score is 700. An exam voucher is included with this course. View the certification details on Microsoft Learn.

A practice assessment for this certification is available through Microsoft's AI Skills Navigator, and requires a Microsoft sign in.

Microsoft fundamentals certifications do not expire, so once your team earns this credential there is nothing further to renew.

Skills measured

  • Identify AI concepts and capabilities (40 to 45 per cent)
  • Implement AI solutions by using Microsoft Foundry (55 to 60 per cent)

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Participants will get more from the hands on sections with:

  • Some knowledge of Python coding syntax and general programming techniques.
  • An understanding of core cloud concepts, including cloud storage and cloud compute.
  • Familiarity with cloud based authentication and authorisation.
  • No machine learning or data science background is needed.

Where this course fits in your team's Microsoft pathway

AI-901T00 is the entry point to Microsoft's AI pathway. It pairs naturally with AZ-900T00 for teams new to Azure itself, and it is the recommended grounding before the two associate level AI courses.

Pairs with

AZ-900T00 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals

Covers the Azure platform itself. Useful for teams who are new to the cloud as well as to AI.
This course

AI-901T00 Introduction to AI in Azure

Prepares your team for the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification.
Next, for developers

AI-103T00 Develop AI Apps and Agents on Azure

The associate level build course: generative AI apps, agents and multimodal solutions in Microsoft Foundry.
Next, for operations

FAQs

Yes. Microsoft retired Exam AI-900 on 30 June 2026 and replaced it with AI-901. AI-901T00 is the instructor led course that prepares your team for the current exam, and it earns the same credential, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals.

No. Microsoft courses through Upskilled Tech Academy are delivered as group training for businesses, not as on demand training for individuals. We schedule a dedicated cohort for your team, either virtually or on-site at your workplace. Get in touch and we will scope it with you.

For this course, yes. AI-901T00 is deliberately scoped as a foundations course: concepts plus a practical orientation in Microsoft Foundry. Teams that need to build and deploy AI solutions go on to AI-103T00 or AI-300T00, which run for four days each.

Not to follow the course. Some Python familiarity makes the hands on exercises easier, but the concepts half of the day is accessible to non developers, which is why mixed teams tend to do well in it.

Yes. An exam voucher for Exam AI-901 is included with this course. The exam is proctored, and the passing score is 700.

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons organisations book it. Running one cohort across developers, analysts and delivery staff means everyone leaves with the same understanding of what your AI projects involve.
