Work Smarter with Microsoft 365 Copilot
Course Overview
Work Smarter with Microsoft 365 Copilot is a facilitated workshop built to close that gap, and you build it yourself. Rather than a fixed agenda, the course is a menu of twelve modules covering the Copilot fundamentals, Copilot inside the Microsoft apps your people already live in, and the newer ground of Notebooks, image generation and agents. You choose the modules, length, and format, and an Upskilled education consultant shapes it into a session that fits your team.
Every module is hands-on and worked through in your own Microsoft 365 environment, so people practise on the documents, inboxes and meetings they actually deal with rather than a demo tenant.
What will you learn?
What your team takes away depends on the modules you choose, but across any combination, participants will be able to:
- Explain what Microsoft Copilot is, how it works and how it differs from a general AI chatbot.
- Use Copilot for the everyday tasks that take up most of their time in their role.
- Reach business data and Microsoft 365 content through Copilot, within the permissions they already have.
- Understand how Copilot uses work information to build a response, and why two people asking the same question can get different answers.
- Write prompts that get a usable result, then iterate rather than accepting the first output.
- Check Copilot output against its sources and citations before relying on it.
- Use Copilot responsibly and safely, and recognise what should not be put into it.
- Apply Copilot inside the specific Microsoft apps your team chooses to cover on the day.
Choose modules that match your team's work, and the outcomes will follow.
Before you book: a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence is required. This workshop teaches Copilot inside your own Microsoft 365 environment, so every participant needs an active Copilot licence and access to Copilot in the apps you choose to cover. Participants should also be comfortable working with files, email, meetings and documents in Microsoft 365. If your organisation has not licensed Copilot yet, or is still running a limited pilot, talk to an education consultant first so the workshop lands after your rollout, not before.
Who is this course for?
This workshop is for teams whose organisation has already licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot and now wants people to actually use it well. It is written for business users, not technical users, so there is no configuration, tenant setup, or technical prerequisite beyond ordinary confidence with Microsoft 365.
Typical participants
- Executives and senior managers
- Team leaders, supervisors and frontline managers
- Administration and office support staff
- Executive and personal assistants
- Project and program coordinators
- Marketing, communications and HR teams
- Finance and operations staff working in Excel
- Anyone issued a Copilot licence who is not getting value from it yet
It also suits organisations partway through a Copilot rollout, where the licences have landed but adoption has stalled, and HR or learning and development teams who need a consistent, safe standard for Copilot use across the business.
Course Modules
Choose from a range of practical Copilot modules to build the program that suits your team:
Module 1 - The Copilot System and LLMs
Understand what large language models actually do, and how Copilot combines AI with Microsoft 365. See how it compares with ChatGPT, how it reaches your organisation’s data, and where human judgement still matters.
Module 2 - Security, Privacy and Data Protection
Learn how Copilot handles your data, and why it only ever sees what the person using it can already see. Cover permissions, governance, compliance and what responsible use looks like day-to-day.
Module 3 - Using Copilot Chat
Get comfortable with Copilot Chat for everyday work, both on its own and inside the apps. Learn to pick the right mode for the task, reference your own work content and explore ideas quickly.
Module 4 - Prompt Engineering Essentials
Learn what separates a prompt that works from one that wastes your time, and how to structure one properly. Iterate on the answer, judge what comes back and check the sources behind it.
Module 5 - Copilot in Microsoft Outlook
Use Copilot to manage a busy inbox, draft replies and summarise long email threads in seconds. Pull out the tasks, actions and follow-ups, and stay on top of meetings and your calendar.
Module 6 - Copilot in Microsoft Word
Draft, rewrite and refine documents with Copilot, and summarise long ones down to what matters. Build professional business documents using the Copilot pane and inline actions.
Module 7 - Copilot in Microsoft Teams
Summarise discussions, prepare for meetings and keep track of actions and outcomes. Use Copilot live during virtual meetings and find key information buried across conversations.
Module 8 - Copilot in Microsoft Excel
Explore and analyse data with Copilot, and get help with formulas and calculations that would take hours by hand. Identify trends and patterns, then turn them into reports and recommendations.
Module 9 - Copilot in Microsoft PowerPoint
Create presentations from a prompt or straight from an existing document, using your own templates and branding. Rewrite slides, generate charts and visuals, and develop speaker notes.
Module 10 - Copilot Notebooks
Organise project information in one place and build a shared knowledge base your team can question. Summarise several resources at once and keep context for work that runs over weeks.
Module 11 - AI Image Generation
Learn the principles behind generating effective images, and how to design prompts for visuals. Create business and presentation imagery, and understand licensing and responsible use.
Module 12 - Introduction to Copilot Agents
Understand what Copilot Agents are and how they differ from a one-off prompt. Explore real business use cases, how agents are created, configured and shared, and the governance around them.
Duration
There is no fixed length. The workshop is built from the modules you pick, so the duration follows the selection rather than the other way round.
- 2-hour focused sessions. A short, targeted session on one area, such as getting the whole team prompting properly or covering safe and responsible use before a wider rollout.
- Half-day or full-day workshops. The most common choice. Enough time to cover the fundamentals and then work through Copilot in the apps your people use most.
- Multi-session programs over time. Modules delivered across several shorter sessions, which suits teams who cannot lose a full day at once and gives people time to practise between sessions.
As a rough guide, a two-hour session suits one or two modules and a full day covers substantially more, but the final mix is agreed with your education consultant rather than set by a formula. Tell us how much time you can give it and which modules matter, and we will tell you honestly what fits.
Delivery Format
Both formats are instructor-led and run in your own Microsoft 365 environment.
- Virtual instructor-led. Live, interactive sessions online, with real-time facilitation, discussion and hands-on practice. Suits remote teams and organisations spread across several sites or states.
- In-person instructor-led. Delivered at your workplace or a venue of your choice, face-to-face, with the facilitator able to look over shoulders while people work.
Both cover the same modules to the same depth. We agree on group size, dates, and module selection before we confirm the booking. Get in touch about group training.

FAQs
This instructor-led workshop teaches teams how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot effectively at work. Rather than a fixed agenda, it is built from a menu of twelve modules covering Copilot fundamentals, Copilot in Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint, and newer ground like Copilot Notebooks, image generation, and agents. You choose the modules, length, and format, and we assemble the workshop around that. You practise everything in your own Microsoft 365 environment.
Yes. This is the one hard requirement. The workshop is taught inside your own Microsoft 365 environment, so every participant needs an active Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and access to Copilot in the apps you choose to cover. Without a licence, participants have nothing to practise. If your organisation has not licensed Copilot yet, or is still running a limited pilot, talk to an education consultant first so the workshop lands after your rollout rather than before it.
Yes, and that is the core of how this workshop works. The workshop has twelve modules, and none are compulsory, so you take what is relevant and leave what isn't. A finance team might take the fundamentals plus Excel and Outlook. A communications team might take the fundamentals plus Word, PowerPoint and image generation. Your education consultant will talk you through the selection.
The length follows the modules you choose. It can run as a two-hour focused session, a half-day or full-day workshop, or a multi-session program spread over several weeks. Delivery is either live virtual instructor-led or in person at your workplace or a venue of your choice. Both formats cover the same modules to the same depth. As a rough guide a two hour session suits one or two modules and a full day covers substantially more, but the final mix is agreed with your consultant.
Business users rather than IT staff. Executives and senior managers, team leaders and supervisors, administration and office support, executive assistants, project coordinators, marketing, communications and HR teams, and finance and operations staff. The common thread is people who have been issued a Copilot licence but aren't yet getting value from it. It also suits organisations partway through a rollout where the licences have landed but adoption has stalled.
The short version is that Copilot can see your work and a general chatbot cannot. Microsoft 365 Copilot is built into the Microsoft apps your organisation already uses and can draw on your own documents, emails, meetings and chats, within the permissions each person already has. A general tool like ChatGPT has no access to any of that unless someone pastes it in, which is exactly where confidential information tends to leak. The Copilot System and LLMs module covers this comparison properly, and the Security, Privacy and Data Protection module covers what it means for your data.
This workshop is group training for organisations and is quoted per booking, so we don't sell it to individuals. That is partly practical: the module selection, the licence requirement and the use of your own Microsoft 365 environment all assume an organisation behind the booking. If you are an individual wanting general AI skills that are not tied to Copilot, AI in the Workplace is a self-paced online short course you can start straight away.
