Course structure

The standard course is conducted over a 12 month period; within a self-paced online learning environment. 

Upskilled will gather information about your previous experience and skills, weekly study commitment and online learning experience to provide you with an projected duration for your course based on your individual circumstance.

Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit Transfer
Work experience or formal qualifications you have may count towards your course. If you have previously undertaken study at a recognised institution or have some relevant work experience, you might gain credit towards specific units in a course; shortening the time you have to study. This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement the operational plan by monitoring and adjusting operational performance, producing short term plans for the department/section, planning and acquiring resources and providing reports on performance as required.

Communicate effectively as a workplace leader

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively as a workplace leader, including understanding the context, choosing methods of communication to suit the audience, and following up. This unit applies to managers, supervisors and team leaders required to communicate with other persons within the workplace. Communication skills cover a range of methods and contexts within principally structured environments. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Lead effective workplace relationships

This unit defines skills, knowledge and outcomes required to use leadership to promote team cohesion. It includes motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing the team and forming the bridge between the management of the organisation and team members. This unit applies to team leaders, supervisors and new or emerging managers where leadership plays a role in developing and maintaining effective workplace relationships. It applies in any industry or community context. At this level work will normally be carried out within routine and non-routine methods and procedures, which require planning and evaluation and leadership and guidance of others. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Lead team effectiveness

This unit defines skills, knowledge and outcomes required to plan and supervise the performance of the team and develop team cohesion. It applies team leaders, supervisors and new emerging managers who have an important leadership role in the development of efficient and effective work teams. Leaders at this level also provide leadership for the team and bridge the gap between the management of the organisation and the team members. As such they must 'manage up' as well as manage their team/s. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and obtain feedback on own work performance and access learning opportunities for professional development. This unit applies to individuals who are required to design their own work schedules and work plans and to establish priorities for their work. They will typically hold some responsibilities for the work of others and have some autonomy in relation to their own role. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Coordinate implementation of customer service strategies

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to advise on, carry out and evaluate customer service strategies, including the design of improvement strategies based on feedback. Operators may have responsibility to provide guidance or to delegate aspects of these tasks to others.

Address customer needs

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the ongoing relationship with a customer, which includes assisting the customer to articulate their needs, meeting customer needs and managing networks to ensure customer needs are addressed. The customer relationship would typically involve direct interaction a number of times over an extended period. This unit is appropriate to workers who are expected to have detailed product knowledge in order to recommend customised solutions.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement the organisation's continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on using systems and strategies to actively encourage the team to participate in the process, monitoring and reviewing performance, and identifying opportunities for further improvements.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work with teams and individuals, their standard of conduct and the initiative they take in influencing others. At this level, work will normally be carried out within routine and non routine methods and procedures which require the exercise of some discretion and judgement.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor the organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area in order to meet legislative requirements

Identify risk and apply risk management processes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify risks and to apply established risk management processes to a subset of an organisation or project's operations that are within the person's own work responsibilities and area of operation.

The pathways available to learners who undertake this qualification include the BSB51918 -  Diploma of Leadership and Management or a range of other diploma qualifications.

As a guide, entrants to this program may:

  • have completed year 12, or
  • a qualification at Certificate III level or higher, or
  • 3 years of relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

You will also need to be at least 18 years at the time of applying for admission.

The participants in the BSB42015 - Certificate IV in Leadership and Management may be employees already working in supervisory or leadership role. 

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as developing and emerging leaders and managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level provide leadership, guidance and support to others. They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team.

They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

To ensure participants are able to seamlessly access our online learning platform and video content, they will require access to a modern computer with high-speed internet. Participants will also need to possess basic computing skills, and may be required to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy skills assessment before enrolment can be confirmed.

Software required
A digital video recording device and/or a digital camera and associated software to save and upload video, image and audio files. Software to view online videos and images. Software such as Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Viewer etc.

Language requirements

This course involves reading, researching and undertaking a range of written and practical assessments, as well as engaging in online forums and discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires the successful completion of English to Year 12 level.

Completed English at Year 12 level, you can demonstrate equivalency through one of the following:

A qualification at Certificate III level or higher;

OR

3 years relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

Other requirements

Learner is required to undertake audio/video recordings for all UoC's.

The other requirement for this course is - To successfully meet the assessment requirements and demonstrate communication skills, you will need to work with one or two other people to participate in video or audio role-plays. It is your responsibility to find your own suitable role play participants.
