Upskilled is pleased to announce the launch of 11 new Qualifications in 3 areas of high demand: Hospitality, Community Services and Retail. Upskilled continues to expand its product offering, now with 46 Qualifications and over 250 short courses available.

Retail – Be a part of the largest employing industry in AustraliaRetail Girl

The retail sector is recovering some of its pre-crisis buoyancy and is one of Australia’s leading employers. That means there’s always demand for qualified, well-trained retail staff and managers.

Three online VET courses in retail provide training for those new to retail, already working in the sector, and those looking for a career in retail management. All lead to recognised qualifications.

Certificate II in Retail Services is an entry-level qualification for public-facing staff in a range of retail environments, from department stores to specialist outlets. It’s designed to equip the student with skills in basic operations including point-of-sale and customer service, and to help plan a career.

For those already working in the sector, Certificate III covers Retail Operations. Training in store operations covers safety at work, communicating with customers and the store’s team, and effective sales techniques. Other units include stock control, innovating at work, and interacting with customers.

A 10-unit Certificate IV in Retail Management provides in-depth retail training. This course is ideal for those with retail experience and who want to progress to management roles.

Hospitality – Join the most vibrant and lively industryHospitality girl

Another strong performer in the service economy is the tourism, travel and hospitality sector. Hospitality is no longer the poor relation of careers and offers everything from opportunities to travel to running your own business.

Basic skills are introduced in the entry-level Certificate II in Hospitality, an ideal introduction to the skills demanded across the industry. Food service and hygiene, customer service, and communication skills are the building blocks to a career in the sector.

On-the-job training through work placement forms part of Certificate III, which provides a solid grounding in catering practices as well as the social and communication skills essential for those working in travel, tourism and hospitality. On completion of the course, students will be well placed to secure jobs in bars, restaurants, or as function attendants.

Certificate IV also combines online learning with practical assessment, and is designed to prepare students for a supervisory or management role. 21 units take the student through all aspects of running a smooth operation. Both Certificates III and IV require 30 to 40 hours of on-the-job training; Upskilled and the student work together to organise work placements.

Community Services – Make a difference in your community

Practical training is invaluable in vocational training, and Community Services is no exception. Five training pathways lead to certificates in Aged Care, Home and Community Care, Community Services, and Disability care, all with a strong element of work placement and practical assessment.

A wide range of skills are needed to provide high-quality, safe and ethical care.  Awareness of the different challenges faced by the elderly, disabled, young people at risk, and those being cared for at home is essential. It doesn’t stop there. Other agencies – social and health workers, for example – will also be part of a carer’s working life.

Each course is designed to equip students with a broad range of skills and contexts to help others achieve quality of life. The Certificates III and IV in Aged Care require 100 hours of placement work, while online course materials cover essential skills at assistant and supervisory levels.

A broad suite of skills and training is delivered by undertaking the Certificate III in Home & Community Care and Certificate III in Disability Care. The Certificate IV in Community Services Work develops training for students seeking roles such as outreach, family support or case work. These courses also feature placement work, and will require a National Police Check.
