Upskilled is proud to be an approved provider of the NSW Government's Smart and Skilled Program.  Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training System which provides participants with a great opportunity to obtain the necessary skills needed to pursue a career through Government-subsidised training. Eligible qualifications range from Certificate I right through to Advanced Diplomas.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
  • Government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas

Smart and Skilled Courses and Pricing

In 2015, eligible Smart and Skilled students contribute, on average, between 10% and 45 % of the course cost, the NSW Government subsidises the remaining amount.  Each government-subsidised qualification has a fixed price (regardless of training provider), which is determined by the NSW Government.

Smart and Skilled student fees are for the whole qualification. This means you’ll know, upfront, the total cost of the training.  With Upskilled, to make it even more flexible, we have also made payment plans available.

The exact fee a student pays depends largely on their eligibility.

Are you eligible for Smart and Skilled?

In order to access this funding you will need to meet all of the requirements below:

  1. An Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand Citizen
  2. Aged 15 years or older
  3. Live or work in New South Wales
  4. Have left school

If you answered ‘Yes' to all four questions, then you're eligible to enrol in a government-subsidised course with Upskilled

Types of courses you're eligible for
Your eligibility for a government-subsidised Smart and Skilled course depends on your previous qualifications:

  • If you haven't completed a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, you're entitled to enrol in a subsidised course up to Certificate III.
  • You can enrol in subsidised training at Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level, depending on the availability of funding for these courses. Having completed a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification does not affect eligibility.

How to enrol in a Smart and Skilled course

To enrol in a government-subsidised Smart and Skilled course, just follow these steps:

  1. Check whether you may be eligible for Smart and Skilled government-subsidised training by completing our Eligibility form
  2. Our Education Managers will contact you within 24 hours to discuss your eligibility and the courses available to you.
  3. If eligible, you will be required to complete an enrolment form which your education manager will provide

Unique student identifier (USI)
From 1 January 2015, everyone undertaking nationally-recognised vocational training in Australia needs a unique student identifier (USI). It enables you to access your training records and results. If you don’t have a USI, Upskilled will assist you in obtaining one.
