It has become an expectation that half of all educators employed in child care centres need to hold a Diploma level qualification, as a condition of operation. All Family day care coordinators working with children aged birth to 13 years must hold a Diploma level qualification.

Course Delivery and Duration
This course is delivered online over a period of 18 months. You will be provided with your own personal mentor for the duration of the course who will answer questions and guide you through the course material and assessments. You will have access to your mentor at any time and can contact them via email, phone or even Skype - depending on your preference. You will gain access to an interactive online learning environment with 24/7 access to all of your required learning materials.
Graduates receive the award CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
There are no pre requisites to enrol to study this qualification, although students are expected to have Year 12 or equivalent literacy, numeracy and language skills and intermediate computer skills.
The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care includes the requirement for a 240 hour vocational placement in an Early Childhood Education setting. In order to participate in this, you will be required to complete a Working With Children check to comply with the requirements of the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Child Care Act 2002.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) options are also available for students on request and assistance will be provided to determine eligibility. Each student requesting RPL will be interviewed and they should provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application and may be assessed on the job. On the job assessments can be conducted to assess current skills and knowledge.
All units must be successfully completed to attain the qualification.
